Environmental Abstract Is justice equitable and is equity justice? Numerous meanings have been given to the term international justice, including justice as access to tribunals, as due process, as accountability, as international morality, and as equity. The multiple invocations of justice are often imprecise and confusing. In environmental law, justice is partly procedural: “access to justice” is a term commonly used. In the sense of distributive justice, it is also substantive, closely linked to equitable doctrines like “common but differentiated responsibilities.” This paper will explore the various dimensions of justice and equity in international environmental agreements and in the literature.
