Stockholm Environmental Law and Policy Centre was established by the Stockholm University Rector in December 2003. The purpose of the Centre is to contribute to a sustainable legal development at the national, European (EU), and international level in order to protect human health and the environment, and to promote sustainable development. This is to be made through research, teaching and cooperation with other academic institutions, authorities and organisations in Sweden and abroad.
Elizabeth Haub Prize to Antonio Herman Benjamin
The international jury of Elizabeth Haub Prize has decided to award Justice Antonio Herman of the High Court of Brazil the 2015 Elizabeth Haub Prize. Elizabeth Haub Prize is one of the most reputable prizes in Environmental Law in the world.
The jury made its decision in its meeting on October 7, 2015. The Jury has explained the reasons for its decision in the following terms:
”The Prize is awarded to Justice Antonio Herman Benjamin in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development, dissemination and enforcement of environmental law at national, regional and international levels, in his capacity as a professor of law, public prosecutor, Justice at the High Court of Brazil, and Chair of the IUCN World Commission of Environmental Law.”
About the Elizabeth Haub Prize
The Elizabeth Haub Prize is one of the most reputable prizes in Environmental Law. The prize was established in 1973, thus the prize is also the oldest in its category. The award ceremony has taken place at Stockholm University since 2008.
The Prize is administered jointly by International Council of Environmental Law (ICEL) in Bonn and Stockholm University.
