Welcome to the course in European Intellectual Property Law!
   
Learning objective/Course Aim
The purpose of the course is to provide in-depth knowledge in International Intellectual Property law, including the exploitation of rights by different kinds of agreements with a specific focus on EC Law. Questions concerning application of law and agreements will be dealt with specifically in the course.
The course comprises all parts of intellectual property, i.e. Copyright Law including the Law on photographs and related rights, Patent Law, Design Law, Trade Mark Law, Unfair Competition Law and the relation between Intellectual Property Law and Unfair Competition Law. Different forms of licensing and the impact of licence agreements are also covered.
   
Pre-requirements
The course is open to Swedish undergraduate students with a minimum of 100 credit points (150 hp/ECTS) of compulsory courses within the law programme who have passed the courses in Criminal Law and Procedural Law. The course is also open to foreign undergraduate law students. A good knowledge of English is necessary since the literature and the lectures are in English.
   
Course description
Teaching includes 10 lectures (21 hours) and three seminars (six hours). The lectures are compulsory; please contact the head of the course in advance in case you plan to be absent.

Each student shall write and present a lecture memo of approximately five- ten pages, equivalent to two credit points. Please keep in mind that content - not volume - is of importance.The memo has to be written in English and handed over to the seminar teacher three weekdays before the day for the seminar. All three seminars are compulsory to attend. Information about your assigned task is published on the website on April, 5th.
   
Examination
The course ends with a written examination. The questions are given in English, but can be answered in either English or Swedish, according to the student's own choice. Approval of the memo is a prerequisite for admittance to the examination. You are allowed to use all the material included in the list of literature and the material handed out during the lectures as well as your own notes from lectures and seminars. Dictionaries are also allowed.
