Stockholm University excels at international arbitration moot
In the Willem C Vis Arbitration Moot Competition (VIS Arbitration Moot), perhaps the most extensive student competition in the world, Stockholm University won prizes in every category. The moot was held between the 30th of March to the 5th of April 2012.
The Stockholm University team, sponsored by Vinge, has established a track-record as consistently winning prizes and praises at this prestigious competition. Impressively, Stockholm won a second place prize for its Respondent memorandum and an honorable mention for its Claimant memorandum.
This year the Stockholm team was one of the 64 teams that achieved the highest scores in the general oral rounds after four days of pleadings and thus earned a place in the final elimination rounds, (being eliminated by Bucerius, which went to the quarter-finals). Two of Stockholm’s students earned honorable mention prizes for the oral advocacy Thus, Stockholm University won prizes in every category in this highly prestigious and competitive event.
The team consisted of students in the Master of International Commercial Arbitration Law program: Brian Kotik (US) , Ragnhildur Olafsdottir (Iceland) , Celeste Salinas Quero (Chile) , Yaroslava Sorokhtey (Ukraine), Anina Wissner (Switzerland), and Gunnar Witte (Germany).
The coaching team was led by Patricia Shaughnessy with assistance from Jakob Heidbrink and Gretta Walters, and student coach Stefan Dudas.
The results were: Claimant Memorandum 1= Harvard/Zurich (tie) 3= Freiburg/Paris 1 (tie)
