Digital certificates and certification services

It seems to be a common assumption that digital certificates and certification services may have an impact on one of the basic challenges in the information society – identity management. This presentation (in Norwegian) will look into certain aspects of the interaction between law and technology in this specific field of information security. The presentation will address the way in which traditional legal requirements as to form or procedures can sometimes be met by way of certificate based solutions, the way in which traditional legal requirements sometimes build on presumptions that are not clearly stated in the legal texts, how legal instruments can be used to facilitate technical solutions in order to meet pressing practical needs, and the importance of user behavior and user knowledge in order to realize the potential of the technical measures – whether supported by law or not.
