The "i" in legal information retrieval

Legal sources are the tools of every lawyer. Despite technological progress, however, legal sources are still considered documents and not part of a greater picture of legal information. Taking into consideration the doctrine of legal sources, are there any possibilities to view legal information from a more holistic point of view? An analysis of the structure of legal documents, bearing in mind acknowledged scientific legal method, may offer some answers.
