National Library of Sweden

The Swedish Law and Informatics Research Institute (IRI) and the National Library of Sweden (KB) have embarked on a collaboration agreement. The aim of this collaboration is to bring to the fore and highlight the legal questions that are common to their respective areas of expertise.

The National Library of Sweden is a research library, which specializes in the area of the Social Sciences and Humanities. The library also plays a central role the provision of information to universities and colleges. For example, it procures electronic scientific magazines and also provides databases and search capabilities.

The library’s assignment – to collect and make available books, magazines, music, television and radio etc. – results in legal questions that relate to copyright and privacy protection in the digital environment.

The collaboration between IRI and KB will be reflected by cooperation with regards to the writing of theses combined with practical experience, seminars and conferences.

Theses with a practical element

Starting from the Autumn term 2009, KB can offer work experience for theses writers that are currently attending the undergraduate law programme at Stockholm University. KB’s lawyer, Jerker Rydén, together with a regular supervisor from IRI, will provide support in this regard.

KB can provide interesting theses topics as well as a place of work at which to research these topics. A number of authors will also be offered ten weeks practical experience with the National Library of Sweden. Simultaneously offering a number of students practical work experience, will result in a creative environment for legal discussion and analysis.

IRI and KB will also arrange joint seminars, where the authors will be able to discuss their topics with professional lawyers and other experienced professionals.
